Wayne Baran

October 16, 1953 – September 27, 2026

Wayne Baran, 72, of Utica, New York, passed away on September 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, friendship, and a lifelong dedication to helping others.

Born on October 16, 1953, Wayne was the son of John and Marion (Lojewski) Baran. He attended Boston College, where he earned his bachelor's degree, and later continued his education at Babson College, earning a master's degree in finance.

Wayne devoted much of his professional life to education and helping young people reach their full potential. He spent 19 years serving as an Assistant Superintendent in the Syracuse school district before returning to Utica, where he served as Director of the Boys & Girls Club. He later joined Mohawk Valley Community College, working with high school students as they prepared for the important transition to college.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Wayne had a tremendous passion for life. He cherished spending time with family and especially loved his visits to Florida and California, where he could reconnect with loved ones and create lasting memories.

An avid sports enthusiast, Wayne was a passionate fan of both UCLA and USC football. He also had a lifelong love of horse racing. One of his proudest and most exciting moments came when he fulfilled a personal dream of owning a racehorse alongside a group of close friends. It was an experience that brought together two things Wayne treasured: his passion for horse racing and the friendships he held dear.

But perhaps what made Wayne most special was the way he made those closest to him feel. Wayne had a remarkable gift for making his family and friends feel as though they were the most important people in the world. When you spoke with Wayne, he gave you his undivided attention and made you feel genuinely valued. It was a rare quality and one that will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

Wayne will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments and dedication to his community, but for his warmth, his friendships, his love of family, and the genuine interest he took in the lives of those closest to him.

The true measure of Wayne's life was not simply what he accomplished, but how he made people feel. And for those who knew him, that is a gift that will never be forgotten.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Utica, New York. Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
