Wanda G. Gregory, of New Hartford, died May 21, 2023.

She was born June 6, 1933, to William and Stella Mary Symkiewicz Grygiel in Utica, New York. She was baptized at Holy Trinity Church on Lincoln Ave. When the family moved to New Hartford, they joined the old St. John’s Church and Wanda, at the age of five, became a lifelong parishioner there where she partook in all of her sacraments. She married Donald R. Gregory on November 24, 1962, and they had 60 loving years together until her passing in 2023.

Wanda Graduated from New Hartford High School and Potsdam College. She was a teacher for 29 years. After her own children began school, she spent her last 21 years teaching third grade at Oxford Road Elementary School. She really loved her students and her job teaching, especially in the classrooms where she had once been a student.

Wanda’s family and friends were her first concern. After that came St. John the Evangelist Church, where she began singing in the choir at the age of 12 and never stopped. After retiring, she became involved in many of the church ministries and other various tasks. She spent much of her time visiting hospitals, nursing homes, and the homebound. During her visits she would bring the Eucharist, a smile, cheer, and a listening ear, as many St. John’s volunteers do.

Wanda is survived by her loving husband, Don, daughter, Cindy Pape (Mark Pape), son, Tom Gregory; beloved grandchildren, Tiffany Rositano, Daniel Teesdale (Yamile), Caitlin Alberico; great grandchildren, Pierce, Maddox, Corbin, Salvatore, Athena, and Apollo. Also surviving are her sister, Barbara Stockhoff and brother Peter Grygiel and wife, Toni. She also leaves many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. Wanda was predeceased by her brother Stan Grygiel, 1990, Bill Grygiel, 1997, and Monica Grygiel, 2009; sister in law, Jean Marcali; daughter in law Kathleen A. Gregory and brother in law, Donald Stockhoff.

The funeral will be held at St. John the Evangelist, New Hartford on Friday at 10:00 am, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Service, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
