Victor L. Costello, 74, of New Hartford, died on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare after a long illness.

He was born on November 3, 1942, a son of the late Louis and Antonetta (Lucia) Costello. He graduated from Saint Francis deSales High School and earned his nursing degree from MVCC. On November 11, 1967, he married Karen Williams. He worked as an attendant and then as a Registered Nurse at Utica State Hospital for nearly 20 years before retirement. Victor served on the Board of Directors of the GPO Federal Credit Union for 35 years and also served on the Board of Directors of the Retired Public Employees Association for 25 years.

Victor had many hobbies including fishing, movies, golf and playing poker with friends. He also was an avid fan of the New York Giants, New Jersey Devils and New York Yankees.

Survived by his wife of 49 years Karen (Williams) Costello; son Robert Costello and husband Dr. Werner Sun; sisters Judy Brockway and Lucille Costello; brother James Costello and wife Kathryn Costello; special nephew Robert Brockway, and other nephews and niece; Aunt Rose Tanzi; and special cousins Margaret Costello, Marcus Costello, James Costello, Frank Costello and their families, as well as numerous other cousins. He is predeceased by parents Louis and Antonetta, brother Robert, and special cousin and best friend James Costello, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Special thanks to staff and friends at the Lutheran Home and Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare for all they did for Victor and his family.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services,13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. A memorial service will be on Friday at 10:00 at St. Mary's Church, 13 Marvin St., Clinton. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
