Obituary

Susan Owens passed away peacefully on the morning of October 2, 2026, in Utica, New York, following several months of illness. She was 84 years old.

Born on August 9, 1942, Susan was the daughter of John Powel and Payson Hoyt Johnston. She was raised in a loving home by her step-father and mother, Gordon and Payson Torrey. Her early years included experiences both at home and abroad, and her life ultimately became centered around the family and generations that followed her.

Susan was the proud mother of four daughters: Christine Peck, Jacqueline DeCarolis, Deborah Perez, and Jennifer Mahardy Vigil. Over the years, her family grew to include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating a legacy that will continue through the generations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bolton Owens III, as well as other beloved family members who went before her.

Susan is survived by her four daughters, Christine, Jacqueline, Deborah, and Jennifer; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and extended family and loved ones who will remember her and carry her memory forward.

Susan’s life lives on through her daughters, through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and through the memories shared by the family she leaves behind.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
