Stanton G. Cummings, affectionately known as “Garth,” 82, of Bridgewater, NY, was called home to be with his lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 25, 2025.
Born on November 10, 1942, in Sherburne, NY, Garth was the son of the late Stanton L. and Jessie V. Cummings. He dedicated many years of service to Lucas Aerospace (formerly Bendix) on French Road in Utica before retiring.
Garth was a man of many joys and hobbies. He loved the open road on his motorcycle, the soul of music—particularly Pink Floyd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Neil Young—and getting lost in a good book, especially anything penned by Stephen King. Despite all of those, none compared to his deep love for his wife’s potato salad.
A man of contrasts, Garth was like an Oreo cookie, hard on the outside, but with a soft and sweet center. (Though truth be told, oatmeal raisin was his favorite.)
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Della; his children: daughter Kelley Hastings of New Hartford, NY; son Lester Philips of Virginia; son Jeff Barbiaux and his wife Lise of Florida; son Jason Cummings of Cedarville; and son Mark Cummings of Clarkston, MI; cousin Bruce Wilcox and his wife Victorica of Bloomsburg, PA; as well as many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Garth was predeceased by his brother Brent Cummings, and aunts Dorothy Wilcox and Barbara Cantor.
A special thank you to the Doctors and Nurses at Wynn Hospital for their exceptional care. A deeply heartfelt thank you to Gerry Kreimeyer, the Ahn family, longtime friends Steve and Dawn King, and the many many close friends and relatives whose love and support have meant so much—far too many to name individually! Lastly, a momentous thank you to the American Legion sons and auxiliary for their service, dedication and kindness.
A service to celebrate Garth’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the American Legion, Edward L. Clonan Post 1000, 3454 Oneida Street, Chadwicks, NY, officiated by Pastor Alan White.
Arrangements are in the care of Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd, New Hartford.
