Obituary

Mrs. Sharon (Tutino) Bateman age 83, of New Hartford, passed away on Thursday September 10, 2026, with her family by her side at the Sitrin Health Care Center where she currently resided.

Born in Utica on August 22,1943, Sharon was the daughter of the late Anthony and Giovannia “Jean” (Silvino) Tutino. She was raised in Utica and graduated from Utica Free Academy. She married the love of her life, Roger on July 4, 1967, at Blessed Sacrament Church. They shared a blessed marriage for over 50 years prior to his passing on December 17, 2017. The couple shared the blessing of togetherness, the joys of family life, a commitment to sacrifice, and hard work to benefit their children.

Sharon was employed with General Electric and then with The Utica City School District for over 37 years driving school buses for Special Education. She dedicated her heart and soul to her job making it rewarding, worthwhile, and meaningful to all that were
around her. She was active for nearly 20 years in raising funds to support the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Utica. On Boilermaker Sunday for many years, she could be found handing out popsicles past the Utica Zoo at Kelly’s Popsicle Stand.

Sharon loved her family deeply and was always there when called upon. Sharon was proud of her children and grandchildren. She was a spirited and a giving woman of strong character. She could always be counted on for her support, assistance, encouragement, and advice. She was blessed with the gift of unselfishness and a generous nature. She taught her family strong values. The importance of family, faith, hard work, kindness, tolerance, generosity, forgiveness, and love.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Kelly Bateman, of New Hartford: her son and daughter in law, Roger (RJ) and Cheri Bateman of Utica; her grandchildren, Michael Bateman and Juliana Scalise, of Utica. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Barb and Fran Mandia of New Hartford; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chuck and Roseanne Bateman of Remsen, and sister-in-law, Jacqueline Bateman. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.  She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, James and Sheila Tutino, brother-in-law, Donald Bateman, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Veronica Bateman. 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Magnolia Cottage at the Sitrin Healthcare Center for their care and compassion.

In honoring Sharon’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Sharon’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life, which will commence on Friday September 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mary, Mother of Savior
Parish (formerly known as Church of Our Lady of Lourdes), 2222 Genesee St Utica, NY. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of the Mass. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
