Richard Brown, 93, of Whitesboro, passed away Monday, May 20, 2024, at his home.

He was born November 24, 1930 in Utica, NY, to Arthur Hesse and Katherine Donovan Brown. His mother passed away from pneumonia after childbirth. He and his younger brother, Robert, were raised by their father and their mother’s older sister, Elizabeth Donovan. His sister, Katherine, was raised by her father’s parents and sister, Hilda Brown Bailey.

Richard attended Utica Schools, graduating from UFA in 1949. He joined the NY National Guard in 1948, and was called to active duty during the Korean War, serving with the 64th Engineering Battalion in Japan until being discharged July 26, 1952.

On October 16, 1954 he married the love of his life, Joanne Elizabeth Mursch. Joanne passed away on Nov. 30, 2015. She was the heart and soul of their marriage for 61 years, and was a wonderful mother to their children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Kevin R. Brown (wife Alison), and daughter, Karen R. Brown; his grandchildren, Bianca Coe, her husband Josh, and his great-granddaughter Mayah Coe; Alex Brown; Alyssa Brown and her fiancé Brad Velardi; and his sister, Katherine Brown Vint and her husband, Robert of AZ.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to his special neighbors for their kindness and support.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be on Grand View Cemetery in Whitesboro. Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
