It is with profound sadness that the family of Philip J. DeFazio Sr. Announces his unexpected passing on January 11, 2024, with his loving family by his side.

Philip was born on October 31, 1941, in Utica, NY. Son of the late Frank & Angeline (Domenicone) DeFazio. He was raised & educated locally, graduating from T. R. Proctor High School, continuing his education at Mohawk Valley Community College. Philip proudly served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman for 6 months, followed by 6 years in the Army Reserves fulfilling his military responsibilities.

Philip married Rosemary LoGalbo on July 28, 1962 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Utica, NY. They were blessed to celebrate a loving marriage of 61 years together.

Philip was a loving & devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle & brother. He especially loved attending his grandson Derek’s local hockey & baseball games.

Early in his career, Philip worked at General Electric. From there he left to become the owner/operator of Acme Body Shop in East Utica & Auto Damage Appraisers of Utica/Rome

Philip was an avid golfer, & bowler. He enjoyed many years of being part of local leagues. He was also a diehard Yankees fan & enjoyed watching Yankee games with his wife.

In addition to his wife Rosemary, Philip is survived by his daughter, Deborah DeFazio of Las Vegas, his son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Philip Jr, Melanie and Derek DeFazio of New Hartford; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Gene D’Amico of New Hartford and sister-in-law, Jan Marie LoGalbo of Utica. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins that adore him.

Philip was predeceased by his sister, Barbara DeFazio Smith, brother Ronald DeFazio, infant brother Frank DeFazio and brother-in-law Joseph A LoGalbo.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 5-7 PM at Friedel, Williams, & Edmunds Funeral & Cremation Services at 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford, NY.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 19, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church New Hartford, NY where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
