Peter Michael Cahill, 71, of Clinton, died on Friday, March 2, 2018, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

He was born on February 23, 1947, the son of the late John and Mary Jackson Cahill. Pete attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and Notre Dame High School graduating in 1965. While at Notre Dame, he was a standout athlete in Football and Baseball. In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Navy for four years serving on the USS McDonald and later retired from the Army Reserves. Pete married Patricia Warner on June 17, 1989 in St. Thomas Church, New Hartford. He worked for Niagara Mohawk for 35 years, retiring in 2007 and was a member of the Gas Lighters.

Pete was involved in youth sports in New Hartford and coached hockey and baseball. When he was younger he enjoyed playing fast and slow pitch softball in the MUNY League for K&W Grill and T. Reilly’s. For the past 45 years he enjoyed his summers at Sand Bay on the St. Lawerence River, where he leaves behind many cherished friends and spent many hours fishing. He also enjoyed playing golf, watching the Price is Right and scratching off his Bingo Lottery Tickets. Pete took great pride in providing some of the “fun” things in life for his family, such as his new camp at the River, as well as Hannah’s party house.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patty of Clinton; son Russell Cahill and his wife Genevieve of New Hartford and their children, Hannah of University of Albany, Abigail and Erin of home, who he loved and was very proud of their accomplishments and tried to attend their sporting and band events whenever possible; brother, Dennis Cahill and his wife, Mary of Deerfield; sister Eileen Farina and her husband Frank of Rotterdam and their children, Stephen and Nicole; daughter, Darcey Mulligan of Rochester; son Michael Cahill and his children Michael Robert and Morgan; cousins, David and Barbara Gubbins. He is also survived by his in laws, Karen Warner and John and Carol Warner; niece, Laura Bresnahan and her husband, John and their children, Isabel, Simon and Georgiana; nephew, John Warner and his wife, Sara and their children, Josie and Finnegan; niece, Kate Monaghan; nephew, Andrew Monaghan and his beloved dog Tory. He was predeceased by his mother and father in law, John and Frances Warner; sister and brother in law, Barbara and Wayne Monaghan; Uncle and Aunt Lester and Eleanor Gubbins and Aunt Helen Jackson.

Pete’s family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Michael Walsh, the staff at Strong Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Vandersloot and Dr. Martin and all the ENT team, the staff of the ICU and his physical therapist, Mariann, for all the care and comfort given to Pete and family.

The funeral will be on Friday at 10:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Genesee St., Utica, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated with Military Honors. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. New Hartford American Legion will offer services at 8:00 at the conclusion of the calling hours on Thursday.
