Paul E. Lewis, 74, of New Hartford, died October 3, 2021, at The Grand Nursing and Rehabilitation Unit.
He was born March 17, 1947, in Utica, son of the late Harold and Mary Hanley Lewis. He graduated from Notre Dame High School and attended MVCC.
Paul was employed with the Town of New Hartford Highway Department; he was also the co-owner of Lew’s Barr and Grill and Lew’s Other Half Coffee Shop in New Hartford. He later drove school bus for the New Hartford Central School District. Paul also worked as a school crossing guard helping the young students at Bradley Elementary get to school and home safely.
Paul was a dedicated volunteer fireman for many decades. As a 55 year plus member of the New Hartford Fire Department he served in many capacities to include a stint as the Fire Chief. Paul was a natural teacher, sharing his knowledge with young fire department members. In particular he trained many members in the operation of the fire department pumpers and aerial ladders.
Paul had a great love for his family and will be fondly remember as Uncle Paul. Paul always looked forward to being surround by his family at his epic backyard BBQ’s.
He is survived by two brothers Martin H. Lewis (Gail), John F. Lewis (Linda Nelson), two sisters Carol Yates (James B.) and Susan Philo (Robert) all of New Hartford; two stepchildren Lisa Easton and Michael Connors; his nieces and nephews Jason, Bethany and Michael Lewis, David and Daniel Yates, Kim and Allison Philo and Greg, Matthew and Rachel Lewis.
Calling hours are on Thursday from 2-4 at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. The funeral will follow at 4 PM. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clinton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the New Hartford Fire Department.
