Patricia Candice “Candy” Cahill, 79, of Barneveld, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at her home.
She was born on May 6, 1946, in New Hartford, the daughter late of Robert and Clarissa (Posma) Allerdice. She graduated from Whitesboro High School and SUNY Cortland, where she earned her degree in nursing and became a Registered Nurse.
Candy was previously married to Peter Cahill. She dedicated over 25 years of her career to the Presbyterian Home, where she was known for her compassion and commitment to caring for others.
An avid athlete, Candy had a deep love for giving back to her community. She was highly active in New Hartford Youth Hockey, serving as its president. She also taught power skating, helping young athletes develop their skills and confidence on the ice. In her younger years, she enjoyed downhill skiing and figure skating, as well as spending time on the St. Lawrence River with her parents. In later years, she enjoyed golfing and traveling to Las Vegas and Florida with her friends.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael Cahill and his girlfriend, Cathleen and Russell Cahill and his wife, Genevieve: grandchildren, Michael Robert and Morgan Cahill (Lorenzo Kemp), Hannah, Abigial and Erin Cahill and great grandchildren, Josette and Kierstin Cahill.
Candy treasured the many friendships and memories she made at Van’s Tavern.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mark and Maureen Frye, Ed Entwistle, and Pam Burke for their unwavering support and kindness over the years.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 16, at 7:00 p.m. at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford. Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., prior to services.
