Obituary

Melissa Robertson Axel, affectionately known to all as Misi, of Marion, NY, and formerly of Marcy, NY, made her grand exit from the living world and stepped into the magic to begin her next eternal life. She was a true artist that conjured magic out of the ordinary. It was the hand poured candles, antiques, potpourri, wares, and the enchanted fragrances that she turned into a beautiful business that reflects her fierce independent soul. If there was a paradise beyond this life, it was undoubtedly the shop of her own design, filled with year-round autumn breeze, the echoes of her children’s laughter and the enchanted mystery of Halloween night. Our strong witchy mother, Nonnie and loving wife made her grand exit on July 27th, 2026. She spent 60 years of fierce love, sharp wit and zero apologies, leaving us surrounded by the lingering scent of her memory and the unshakable strength she instilled with us all.

As a mother, she was a fierce, confident, matriarch who kept everyone in line with her sharp tongue and boundless love. As a Nonnie, her grandchildren were her world, she was the best grandmother to Jason and Rowan. She poured her strength straight into the souls of her grandkids, ensuring her wild spirit will never truly leave this world. She was a traveler at heart whose favorite destinations were California, Ireland and the UK but her soul belonged to Salem, MA. She found her magic in the world’s hidden corners, casting a beautiful spell on everyone she met. Waiting for her are her faithful familiars that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Gizmo, Dilly, Mr. Noodles, Cuppycake, Monty, Bella and Benny.

She lived loud, loved fiercely and left this world entirely on her own terms, leaving behind a trail of magic, candle smoke and to never accept a boring life. “She only drinks coffee at midnight, when the moment is not right, when timing is quite unusual. You see her confidence is tragic, but her intuition magic; and the shape of her body unusual.”

Misi is forever remembered by her loving husband Jon Axel. The father of her children Steven P. Wazenkewitz. Her son Steven Z. Wazenkewitz. Her daughters Megan (Joshua)Caraballo and Elizabeth Wazenkewitz. Her grandchildren Jason “Tony” Caraballo  and Rowan “Lucky” Caraballo. Her stepchildren Andrew Axel, Colin (Gina) Axel and the late Patrick Axel. Leaving behind her familiars Buttercup, Tilly, Milo and Roxie. Her parents James and Linda Robertson. Siblings Amanda Falcone and Frederick Robertson.

Honoring Misi’s final wishes, no formal funeral or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wayne County Humane Society. To honor her, light a candle and remember her every Halloween night.
