WISHART, MAUREEN (Mickie)

OH DARN! Maureen passed away on October 17, 2018. Even though it took awhile to corral this stubborn, determined, always busy woman, she passed peacefully surrounded by loving family at her granddaughter, Nicole’s home.

Maureen was born in January 1945 to (Ret) Major Andrew Wishart and Eileen (Gorman) Wishart. Luckily, she was the little sister of Pat Barshinger (Cockeysville, MD) wife of John. If not for their love and patience her life would have been less than great. Maureen was a 1963 graduate of Dulaney High School, Timonium, MD and a 1995 graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica, NY.

Maureen had many jobs throughout her adult life. Most of them were boring, especially the government ones. Although she wore very little jewelry, she had a passion for most styles.

A long time friend of hers was the new manager of a non-profit. She asked for a job and there it was! Finally, a job working and doing some good for humanity! And there was jewelry, every kind imaginable! Who could have been plunked in a better place! Maureen was the jewelry lady for 6 wonderful years at the Salvation Army Store in Concord.
Also in her life was the Alternatives To Violence Project developed and run in prison programs by the Quakers. She chose Auburn prison, upstate NY and was fondly given the nickname “Mighty Mo” and she was.

Baking was her hobby. Nothing was more satisfying than to pass around her much sought after fruit bars, cookies, or a cake to her volunteers who may have rarely or never had anything home made. She enjoyed making occasional treats for the Sunday coffee at church.

Maureen leaves behind her daughter Jeanne Laguna (Hinton), of CA; son William Hinton II, of MD; son Brian Hinton and his partner Michelle Norment, of NY; 5 grandchildren, Nicole Fox and her partner Ed Spetka, Samantha Amann and her partner Chris Wickham, Daniel, Chris and Alex Norment all of NY. 5 great grandchildren Todd Jr, Nathan, Aaliyah, Ethan, and Evelyn; all of NY. Her best friend, Ruth Amaya, who was available day or night, rain or snow to help her with any need necessary. Her care giving and attention to detail was surpassed by none. The family thanks you immensely.

She had a special friend, who, every September for 29 years, came to visit and take her on a little overnight trip and dinner so she didn’t have to cook. Thank you, Pete, for giving her wonderful memories.

Jeanne, Nicole and Samantha would also like to thank the team of nurses and doctors at Norris Cotton Cancer Center and the Concord Regional VNA Hospice team but most especially, nurse Connie, whose caring and compassion for not only Maureen but for us as well goes unsurpassed. A special thank you to Ed, Rosemary, Scott, and Paula for spending time with Maureen providing comfort and companionship.

A memorial service will be held October 27 at 11:00am, at Suncook United Methodist Church, Suncook NH, with a light lunch in the parlor.

Arrangements are with the Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services.
