In Memory of Mary Jane Perry

Obituary

Mary Jane Perry, 80, of New Hartford passed away on January 29, 2021 with her family by her side at Sitrin Health Care Center.

Born on February 19, 1940 in Utica, she was the daughter of William Earl Garratt and Jane Stone Garratt. Raised in Utica, she graduated from UFA. In 1962, she received a B.A. in English from Baldwin-Wallace College, OH.

Returning to Utica, she taught English at Kernan in the Utica Public Schools while pursuing a Master’s Degree at Utica College. On July 2, 1965 she married Sidney Charles Perry of London, UK.

Mary Jane was devoted to her family and a great lover of cats. She also enjoyed traveling and spending summers in Cape Cod and Alexandria Bay. Being an advocate for education, she served on the Board of Directors for the Utica Children’s Museum and was a member of the Oneida Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Sidney C. Perry; two daughters Jane Perry Meyers (Gerald Meyers) of New Hartford, NY and Katherine Perry-Pyne (Richard Pyne) of Peru, NY; two granddaughters Margaret Pyne and Eleanor Pyne.

Her family is grateful for the patience and care given to her at the Sitrin Community. Donations may be made in her memory to an animal charity of one’s choice.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica, NY.
