Mary Jane Butcher age 88, transitioned into the hands of God, on June 23rd 2026 at 6:55 p.m.

Mary Jane grew up in Frankfort, New York, where she helped her grandfather harvest produce from his farm to sell at local markets. She developed a lifelong love of nature, gardening, and cooking. Her mother worked as a cook at the Masonic Home for many years, and some of my family's fondest memories were of Sunday dinners, filled with delicious meals, laughter, and conversations celebrating our Italian heritage.

She is survived by her sisters, Michele and Linda, and her daughter, Wendy, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Michael Belmont; her beloved husband of 62 years, Richard Butcher; her brother, Joseph; her daughter, Susan; and her grandson, Brandon.

Mary Jane was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend who cared deeply for everything and everyone in her life. She met her husband, Richard, while working as a secretary at Griffiss Air Force Base. They built a loving home in the 60s era, where she embraced the role of a stay-at-home mom, raising their two daughters, Susan and Wendy. Whether tending her garden, preparing meals, or caring for her family, she did everything with love and attention, and it showed in every aspect of her life.

For many years, Mary Jane and her family were active members of the Presbyterian Church in Utica. Her faith in God remained a constant source of strength throughout her life.

At the age of 74, Mary Jane began her journey with dementia. Though the disease gradually changed many aspects of her life, she faced the next 14 years with remarkable grace and dignity.

Her love for music, and especially for Elvis, brought her many moments of joy and happiness and although she couldn't remember things, she could sing every word to Elvis’s songs.

In 2024, Mary Jane transitioned to the Sitrin residence, where she immediately found comfort in knowing she was surrounded by compassionate caregivers. Their kindness, patience, and unwavering dedication brought peace not only to Mary Jane but also to her family.

Words cannot express how grateful I am to each of her caregivers. You made her feel safe, loved, and cared for every day. Your compassion meant more than you will ever know, and I will forever be thankful—not only for the care you gave my mother, but for the support and comfort you gave me as well.

Now her care rests in the hands of God. We find comfort in knowing she is finally at peace, reunited with those who went before her. Her gentle spirit, unwavering love, and selfless heart leave a legacy that will never be forgotten. We know she has earned her special wings in Heaven for the love she so generously gave here on Earth.

Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford.
