Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Yager, 86, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Utica Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born in Rome, NY, on May 27, 1937 to Alfred and Eunice (Lane) Wesseldine. She was educated in the Chadwicks schools. Mary worked and retired from St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing, Housekeeping Dept.

On Nov. 2, 1985, Mary and Ernest A. Yager were joined in marriage at St. George’s Church, Chadwicks, enjoying a union of 32 years, until Ernest passed Sept. 1, 2017.

Mary loved to pass time bowling, and her hobbies of knitting and crocheting. She made lovely blankets for family members young and old. Mary and “Ernie” were members of the American Legion, Colon Post #1000, Chadwicks.

Mary is predeceased by her parents; her husband, “Ernie”; her daughters, Deborah Weller and Cathy Wilcox; sisters, Betty Yager, Beverly Kerr, Dorothy DelMedico, and Margaret Majka; and brother, Gilbert and a step-son, Ernest (Gayle) Yager, Jr. She is survived by a step-daughter, Sandra (Michael) Sents; sister-in-law, Gertrude Charboneau; brother-in-law, Howard Yager; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special niece, Joann Lallier.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the nurses, staff and her roommate, Thelma for they did for Mary.

A graveside services will be held at the Tuesday, May 28 at 11:00 am in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford.
