Martin “Marty” P. Griffin, 56 of New Hartford passed away from complications of COVID-19 and Multiple Myeloma on January 5, 2021 with his family by his side.

He was born in Syracuse, NY to Jeremiah and JoAnn Griffin. Martin was a long time employee of Turner Construction and formerly worked at George A. Nole & Son, Purcell Construction, and Stebbins Engineering. He grew up playing hockey at Midstate, CBA, SUNY Canton, and the Mohawk Valley Old Timers League. Some of his fondest memories were of spending time at his cottage on Wolfe Island and boating on the St. Lawrence River. In his free time Martin enjoyed golfing, listening to music and working on home projects. He did his best thinking with a cup of hot tea in his hand. He treasured his trips abroad, especially spending time with his extended family in Ireland. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and Sacred Heart Church on the island.

Marty and Mary Carole (Yntema) Griffin met on the Wolfe Islander ferry as teenagers. They were happily married for 31 years and shared much love and laughter. Spending time with his family made him the happiest. Marty talked about his kids at any opportunity because his favorite role in life was being a dad. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary Carole, daughter Abby, and son Connor.

He is survived by his father Jeremiah, brothers and co-workers, Patrick (Trish) and Sean, sisters, Brigid (David) Lindsley, Maura (Bobby) Dirnhofer, and Sheila (Leo) Trasente, father and mother-in-law, Jack and Carole Yntema, sisters-in-law Linda (Bob) Vandewater, Joyce Ryan and sister #4, Cyndi Ryan. Marty’s nephews and nieces are Emily and Katie Lindsley, Andy and Matt Dirnhofer, Aidan and Jeremiah Griffin, Samantha and Dino Trasente, Kayla (Greg) Cocquyt and Dan Ryan. He is also survived by many cousins and close friends. He was predeceased by his mother JoAnn.

Marty’s family would like to thank Drs. Clark, Ramovic, Detraglia, Butala, Sperling and their staff. The family also appreciated the excellent care he received from staff at both St. Luke’s Hospital and Dana Farber/Brigham Women's Hospital. Special thanks to his Turner family who supported him through his fight against MM.
