In Memory of Linda J. Hoke

Obituary

After a long and courageous battle with cancer and dementia, Linda J. Hoke, 70, of Whitesboro passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023 at home with the love of her family at her side.

She was born May 24, 1953 in Utica, NY, the daughter of Millard and Dorothy (Daviau) Johnston. She attended Whitesboro Schools, graduating in 1972. She married John M. Hoke on May 17, 1975 at St. Paul’s Church, Whitesboro. Her passion for keeping a clean house led her to open her own housecleaning business that she operated for many years before retiring to her true passion which was helping with the raising of her grandchildren.

“Grammy” loved her children and her grandchildren. From putting her grandkids on the elementary bus to watching them at their various events through high school, she was always there supporting them. She spoiled them at every opportunity. When the kids got older and told her they didn’t need or want something, she made sure they got it anyway. Her love was far reaching and never ending. Her favorite times were spent with family on Disney Cruise Vacations and at the family camp at Kayuta Lake.

Surviving are her husband, John, daughters Stacey (Jay) LaFayette, Kelly (Tom) Kane, her grandchildren Kara and Jack LaFayette and Ty and Emma Kane. She also leaves behind her BFF since 4th grade, Margaret Jecko, who is the best friend anyone could ever have. She also leaves behind many other friends and family.
She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Alan Johnston.

Arrangements are by Friedel, Williams and Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd, New Hartford. Calling hours are Tuesday, July 18 from 4-7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services are Wednesday, July 19th 11:30 a.m. at St. Pauls Church, Whitesboro.
