John (Jack) E. Adams, age 88 of Utica, NY passed away on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025 at the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Chittenango, NY. He was born October 3rd, 1936 in Newburgh, NY. Son of Percy and Hazel Adams. He attended Fredonia University, studying music, before moving on to complete his Masters at Columbia University. While attending Fredonia, he met his late wife Dale Adams, who was, as he would remind us all, the love of his life. The two shared over 60 years of marriage and were blessed with two sons. He joined the U.S Army, and proudly served as a member of the West Point Band for the duration of his service.

Jack followed his passion for music after settling down in Utica, NY. He was the music teacher at Holland Patent School district throughout his career. Teaching private lessons, and performing in various music groups along the way such as the Utica Civic Band, Utica Symphony, musical trio's and his Clarinet Quartet. He maintained a strong friendship with his colleagues and friends, tied together by the music they loved. His true passion lay with the clarinet, but talents also included saxophone and the flute. He was an avid golfer, John Wayne enthusiast, and loved to watch the leaves change color in the fall.
He was a man devoted to his faith who moved through life with profound compassion and patience. He was a source of comfort, and a foundation of love and safety. No words could be enough to describe him fully but the love for his family, loyalty to his friends, and empathy towards all people has left a lasting impression on all who had the opportunity to know him.
He is survived by his siblings, Peter Adams and Mary Scholfield, son Jeffrey Adams, niece Sharon Scholfield, and grandchildren Jonathan (Dylan), Lauren, Jacob, Darry Jr (DJ), Margaret, and Jack Adams as well as other family and friends who will keep his memory alive. He is predeceased by his parents, wife Dale Adams, son Darryl Adams, and loyal dog Red.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Grand in Chittenango for taking excellent care of Jack over the past year.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Friedel, Williams, and Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services at 10:30am with a service at 12 pm officiated by Rev. Anita Moore of Westminster Church. Burial to follow the service at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
