Joanne Toomey Bogan, 85, went to be the Lord on March 25, 2023 at the Masonic Care Community.

Born in April 1934 in Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ceclia (Peters) Toomey.

On October 13, 1956, she married the late John Francis Bogan, together raising five children. she was a graduate of Whitesboro High School, Class of 1955.

She was a devoted housewife and mother. She worked for the NY Telephone Company, Woolworths in downtown Utica and lastly at the Utica Catholic Bookstore. She was a devout member of the Sacred Heart-St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. She was active in the Ladies Guild at the former Sacred Heart location and was very proud of the cookbook that they were able to compile and publish. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her famous sausage bread. Joanne enjoyed many interests which included bowling, puzzles, music, playing bingo and taking bus trips to different casinos. She had a passion for reading which lead her to join The Readers Theater Group, which performed at local Senior Centers in the area.

Joanne is survived by her four children, Daniel (Christine) Bogan, Suzanne (Kirk) Abel, all of Utica, Kevin (Katherine) Bogan of Lyndonville, NY, Timothy (Sue) Bogan of Annendale, VA; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Bogan.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart/St. Mary’s Our Lady of Czestochowa Church 201 Main St. New York Mills, NY 13417. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.

Memorials may be made in Joanne’s name to Sacred Heart-St. Mary’s Church.
