Joanne (Stone) Burgmaier, 86, of Utica, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2023 at the Mohawk Valley Health Services Rehabilitation & Nursing Home, New Hartford. A very heart felt thank you to all of the staff at MVHS Nursing Home, especially those who worked in the Clark West wing, for their care and support during the time she stayed there.

She was born on November 17, 1936 in Malone, NY. She spent her childhood on Steuben Street in the Cornhill area of Utica. She was a Utica Free Academy high school graduate and completed her studies at Utica Nursing School receiving her certificate of Practical Nursing in 1954.

She then obtained her NYS LPN licensing, where she continued her nursing career at The Masonic Home and Faxton Hospital. There she was the first LPN to work in an Intensive Care unit at a Utica hospital. She retired from the Nursing field as a Nursing Supervisor at Maple House of Gan Kavod ICF/IRA in 2004. Continue caring for and spending time with the man she married, Max Burgmaier, on April 26,1958, at Plymouth Church, Plant St, Utica, where they had met and sang together in the church choir.

Max, was the love of her life and preceded her in departing to the next journey on December 16, 2015. A blessed union of over 57 years, they raised their family on Jason Street in West Utica. Survived by their daughter Joy (Burgmaier) Lacomb and her husband Francis, of Union Springs, NY and son Mark Burgmaier his significant other for many years, Yvonne (Schuff) Peckham, of Utica. She left behind seven loving grandchildren, Jayson Lacomb, his wife Diane of Whitesboro. Jayson’s children, Joanne’s great grandchildren: Christopher, Rheanna and Owen Lacomb. A great, great grandson Abel Anthony Lacomb. Her granddaughter, Brandy (Lacomb) Albino, her husband Joshua of Union Springs, NY and their children, Joanne’s great grandchildren Skyler, Kelsey, Blake and Brooklyn. Very special to her and considered her grandsons; Jim Peckham, of Columbia SC, Richard Miller of Utica and his daughter Ramona. Her God daughter, Karen (Baker) Cieplinski. Several nephews and nieces and many, many wonderful friends and former coworkers.

Joanne was an avid Yankee baseball fan from the days games were on the radio. Her other favorite activities included Buffalo Bills football, bowling, dancing, knitting, reading, sewing and was a big fan of WWE Wrestling. She will always be remembered for her love of Holiday baking as well as baking in general.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday March 24, from 4-7 PM at Friedel, Williams and Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 1123 Court at York Sts. Utica. A brief service to follow at 7 PM. Interment in Carr Cemetery Marcy, will be in the spring.
