Obituary

Joan A. Gilbert, 90, of Utica, died on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at MVHS Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.

She was born on May 11, 1933, in Pocono Pine, PA, a daughter of the late William and Florence Van Horn Wildrick. She graduated from Thomas R. Proctor High School and worked as a bookkeeper for various Law Firms in the Utica area.

On October 30, 1953, Joan married Bernard J. Gilbert and he died on November 26, 2011.

Joan was a long time member of Central Methodist Church in Utica where she was a member of the choir. In her later years, she was a member of the West Schuyler Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Utica Maennerchor Ladies Chorus.

Joan loved to sing and music was a very important part of her life. She sang in many weddings and in most of the churches throughout Utica.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Gilbert and his wife Kathleen of Marcellus and Cynthia Lis and her husband, Robert of Utica; beloved grandchildren, Gina Gilbert of Swan Lake, NY and Megan Gilbert and her husband Andre Mauro of Manhattan; great grandson, Tobin Mack; nephew, Craig George; niece, Lisa Nicolette and a very special friend, Erika Perrone. She was predeceased by her sister Constance George, brother in law, Jospeh George and her grand-dog, Stella.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at MVHS Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for all the care comfort given to Joan.

Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in West Frankfort Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, Utica.
