Obituary

Jane Merry, 81, of Frankfort Hill, died May 13, 2026, at the MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

She was born April 9, 1945, in New York City, daughter of the late Herman and Emma Becker. She graduated from Valley Stream South High School, received her BS from Hartwick College and her master’s degree from Michigan State University.

Jane married Melville D. Merry, December 30, 1972, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Utica.

She was a College Professor at MVCC and assisted managing the family farm with her beloved husband.

Jane was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and volunteered for various events and in the office.

Jane’s interest included Pottery, gardening, sewing, crocheting, book club and playing French Horn in the Community Band.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Lynn (Becker) and Alan Ernst of Franklin, TN; sister-in-law Lorraine Merry of Frankfort, NY, sister- in-law Edith Eastman of Deansboro; also, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great great nieces, and great-great nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Mel.

The family wishes to thank the MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center providers and staff for the great care they provided. Also, to Pastor Anita Mohr for all her love and support throughout the years.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 21 at 11:00 AM at the Graffenburg Cemetery (Corner of Higby and Graffenburg Roads). The Rev. Anita Mohr will officiate. There are no calling hours.
