In Memory of Ivan E. Smith

Obituary

Ivan E. Smith, 85, of New Hartford, passed away April 26, 2026 at Lutheran Care.

He was born October 7, 1940, in Teaneck,  NJ, son of the late Ivan E. and Sally Arundel Smith.  He graduated from Colgate University and received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.

Ivan married Carol Williams on February 2, 1961 in North Carolina.

He was a Professor at MVCC for 35 years.

Ivan was an avid reader, he enjoyed running and ran in many local races including the Boilermaker, he loved traveling with his wife and was happy that he had traveled to all seven continents.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter Karen Ingersoll  and husband Jim; his grandson Nicholas Ingersoll; his brother Peter Smith and his wife Kathleen and his sister Sally Cohen and her husband Eric.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.
