Marcy – Francis H. “Frank” Marlenga, 69, of Marcy and formerly of Utica, passed away peacefully May 29, 2021, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born August 16, 1951, in Utica, a son of Henry J. and Josephine (Kowalczyk) Marlenga. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1969, MVCC in 1971, and then Northeastern University in Boston in 1974, having earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

In 1982, Frank was united in marriage with the former Sheila Snyder at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Holland Patent.

He was employed by NYS for a total of 37 years, working at various locations including Marcy State Hospital, CNY Psychiatric Center, Mid-State Correctional Facility, and lastly for the NYS Division of Parole at Oneida Correctional Facility, retiring in 2011 as a Senior Parole Officer. Following his retirement from NYS, he worked in the Security Department at the Carrier Dome.

Frank was proud to have been at the running of the Kentucky Derby thirty years in a row. He looked forward to playing golf, traveling, following SU sports and spending winters in Daytona Beach, FL. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Frank was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Whitesboro.

Survivors include a sister, Kathy (Tom) Osika of Marcy, and a brother, Henry “Jack” (Gale) Marlenga of New Hartford; nephews Craig (Renée) Osika of NJ, and Andrew (Megan) Osika of Albany; a niece, Lindsay (Brian) Byrnes of Manlius; in-laws Sharon and Ed Dixon, Marvin and Sherry VanSlyke, Linda VanSlyke, Norman and Mia VanSlyke, and Donna and Bert Kiner; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and very good friends. He was predeceased by his parents.

His family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care that Frank received from Drs. Rice and Desai and their staff, and the entire 6th floor staff at St. Luke’s.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Whitesboro. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery will be private. In accordance with Frank’s wishes, there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Frank’s memory to FSLHC Regional Cancer Center, 1676 Sunset Avenue, Utica, NY  13502.
