Emma A. Winn, 101, of New Hartford, died on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the St. Luke’s Home.

She was born on June 27, 1917, in Utica, a daughter of the late Albert and Genevieve Srour Tahan and was educated locally. Emma was married to George J. Winn and he died on June 9, 1982. She was a stay at home mom, but was always giving back to the community by volunteering. She volunteered at the Hope House, Abraham House, and St. Francis De sales Church. Emma was awarded the Monsignor Daniel E. Lawler 1998 Community Service Award.

Emma was a member of the St. John Evangelist Church in New Hartford. She had a great love for, especially babies. She shared her love of cooking for her family and friends.

Emma lived with her son Joseph Winn of New Hartford who took care of his mother tirelessly and faithfully making sure her every need was fulfilled. He lovingly called her Pudge, a nickname that always put a twinkle in both of their eyes. Emma always looked forward to the adventures her daughter Mary Mattner arranged for her and her best friend, Marilyn. Emma looked forward to her son John calling to tell her he loved her.

She is survived by her children, Mary Mattner of Brooklyn, Joe Winn of New Hartford and John Winn of Largo, FL; several adopted grandchildren; sister in law, Violet Tahan and many nieces and nephews from the Robert’s and Tahan’s families. She is also survived by her extended family the Burnett’s from New Hartford and Clinton of which she was referred to as grandma. Emma was predeceased by a daughter in law, Lula Winn and her siblings. Emma was the last of the Tahan clan of Conkling Ave in Utica.

The family would like to thank her extended family for the care and comfort given to Emma.

The funeral will be on Wednesday at 12:00 at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hour will be from 11:00 to 12:00 at St. John’s the Evangelist Church prior to the Mass. Arrangements are with the Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
