Eleanor M. Angell, born on October 25, 1923, in Ilion, New York, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Margaret Hamilton Angell and Howard C. Angell. At an early age, she moved with her family to Utica. She had fond memories of her education in Ilion, Utica, and New Hartford schools. She graduated in 1941, as the United States entered World War II. During this period, she was active in the YWCA and the USO. She loved going to the dances for the servicemen. They were held in Hotel Utica for the Rome Air Base; Rhoades Army Hospital on Burrstone Rd and Colgate University for Navy men and the Marines.

Eleanor was employed by Commercial Travelers Insurance, Reid Sheldon & Co., and Moser & Cotins Advertising, which she enjoyed as a bookkeeper.

Eleanor was a member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Utica: a member and past officer of Faxton Hospital Volunteer Council; a member of Valley Stars Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; a member of over 70 years of the Oneida Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and Treasurer for 15 years. Her father was instrumental in seeking out the family genealogies, tracing her ancestry back to George Hamilton of East Chester, New York. He was in the battles of Long Island and Manhattan in company with General George Washington and with the forces at Valley Forge during the American Revolution of 1775. She was also proud of her Angell ancestry which traces back to Thomas Angell, a Quaker who was with Roger Williams when he settled Providence, Rhode Island in 1636.

Eleanor leaves many friends and employees of Sunset Wood, whom she admired and enjoyed since 2009 when that became her home. She also leaves a niece, Claudia Gerard of Rio Rancho, NM ; a great-niece, Kristin Orlando and her husband John and their daughters Chloe and Maddie ; and two great-nephews, Nicholas Gerard and his wife Maria-Eve and their sons Nico, Dante, and Romulus, and Josh Klaczek and his wife Ragne and their sons James and Cooper.

Eleanor was predeceased by her brothers, Robert H. Angell in 2012 and his wife Myrtle Carpenter Angell in 2011, of Baker, LA and Howard C. Angell, Jr. and his wife Eleanor Englund Angell of Guilford, CT in 2009; a nephew, Paul T. Angell: and her beloved best friend, Margie (Calico Cat) Angell on December 27, 2017.

A graveside service will be held by Carol Jubenville on April 22, 2026 at 1:00PM, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica. Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford. There will be no calling hours. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to organizations meaningful to Eleanor, the Sunset Wood community, or Anita’s Stevens-Swan Humane Society.
