Donald B. Spraker, age 91 of Eastern Star Home, in Oriskany, NY, and formerly of Sauquoit, NY, passed away April 26, 2024, at Eastern Star Home.

He was born March 26,1933, in Cooperstown, NY, to the late Ralph and Sylvia (Shaw) Spraker. He attended Cooperstown High School and went on to graduate from the Utica School of Commerce. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955.

Donald married Shirley Wightman on September 3, 1953, at Schuyler Lake Methodist Church. He worked for 40 years as an accountant at the former Evans, Pirnie, and Burdick Law Firm before retiring in 1995. Don was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, NYS Covered Bridge Association, Flycreek Historical Society, Exeter Historical Society, a former member of the Association of Accountants, and the Fort Schuyler Club.

Don loved playing golf and following all Cooperstown sports. He was a huge Yankee fan and enjoyed watching Syracuse University football and basketball. Don and Shirley enjoyed a lifetime of dancing and traveling to all the covered bridges in the northeast. When the kids were young, their summers were full of camping and traveling to amusements parks. For 15 years, after retirement, they were snowbirds, spending their winters in Myrtle Beach, SC.

He is survived by his daughter Barbara Thompson of Houston, TX; Daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Kenneth Keller of New Hartford, NY; grandchildren, Dustin Thompson, Nicholas Keller, and Alexander Keller; great-grandson Dustin Thompson II; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley Spraker; brother and sister-in-law, Earlington and Alice Spraker; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Willis and Eleanor Wightman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fredrick and Beverly VanWinkler.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at the Eastern Star Nursing Home, many who he considered family.

The funeral will be on Saturday, May 4, at 12:00 pm at Friedel, Williams, and Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, New Hartford. Calling hours will take place prior to the funeral service from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Interment will be in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery following the funeral service.
