Dennis M. Williams, 79, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, at home in Polo Ridge, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 15-month journey with cancer (cholangiocarcinoma).

Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Michael (Mike) Williams and Theresa (Luczko) Williams; his siblings, Barbara (Williams) Geddes, Brian T. Williams, and Arthur G. (Butch) Williams; niece and nephew, Kathryn (Geddes) D’Andrea and Michael E. Geddes.

He is survived by his three children: Jennifer (John) Maher, Mark (Shannon) Williams, and Michael Williams. He shared 23 years of marriage with their mother, Norma (Kelly) Williams from 1969-1992.

He proudly embraced his role, “Coach Grandpa”, to his six beloved grandchildren: John E. Maher III, Patrick W. Maher, Thomas M. Maher, Alexis N. Williams, David S. Williams, and Madison R. Williams.

He is survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.

Denny leaves behind his devoted partner, Mary Joan (MJ) Foresti, who displayed patience and love. He was welcomed into her family and will be missed by Ken, Sherri, Olivia and Kevin, Michele and Ella.

Dennis first wore the uniform of a guard for the UC of SU Pioneers basketball team before enlisting the United States Army after receiving a low draft number during the Vietnam conflict. Stationed at Fort Ord, as Military Police he was promoted early and earned the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter (Rifle) distinction. When not on post, Denny could be found cruising California's Pacific Coast Highway in his beloved ’68 Stingray Corvette.

Professionally, Dennis owned Williams Homes, Inc., served as an officer in the Home Builders Association, worked as an adjunct accounting instructor at Bryant & Stratton Business College, and most memorably served the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance as Miscellaneous Tax Auditor until retirement.

A lifelong athlete and community participant, Dennis ran the Boilermaker Road Race, played municipal softball, played & refereed basketball, and coached Oriskany Little League. He briefly joined the MVBUA alongside his brother Butch before retiring from sports, transferring his competitive edge to his grandchildren. A graduate of Notre Dame high school, he once held the all-time assist record in basketball. His Catholic faith remained central throughout his life.

Dennis' children extend heartfelt gratitude to his close friends: Kevin (Clare) Fahy, Don (Debra) Cardarelli, Al (Beth) Neis, Tom (Barb) Reynolds, Joe (Kathy) Valeriano, and Tom (Linda) Madia. Proven loyalty and steadfast friendships that lifted his spirits and provided unwavering support.

In keeping with Dad’s wishes, there will be no formal calling hours. A Celebration of Life Mass will be announced in the spring and held at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Utica, New York. Arrangements are with Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.

In honor of Dennis' legacy, we encourage those who desire to perform an act of kindness for a stranger today, donate to a local veterans outreach program, food pantry, or volunteer in support of your community.

“We will miss you to the moon and back, G-Pa. Rest easy and continue your love for the game among the angels.”
