Dennis Lloyd Antl, age 81, of Forestport, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 8, 2026, as the result of a house fire. His beloved golden retriever and constant companion, Barkley, also passed away in the fire.
Dennis loved the woods and all animals. His home was a haven for wildlife, and he was fondly remembered by members of the community for the daily walks he and Barkley took along the same familiar route.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1944, Dennis moved with his family to the Utica area in 1954. He graduated from Whitesboro High School, Class of 1962, and attended Utica College. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. In 1971, he and his wife at the time, Ellen, moved to Florida, where he later owned and operated Pinellas Grove Nursery. After retiring, he returned to the Utica area in 1994, making Forestport his home for more than 30 years.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Lloyd Antl of Deerfield.
He is survived by his sister, Christine Antl-Sowalskie of Deerfield; and his brother, Douglas (Dolores) Antl of Canastota; his son, Gregory (Deb) Antl of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his daughter, Nicole (Gregory) Auman of Lutz, Florida; and his five cherished grandchildren, Wyatt, Austin, Riley, Hailey, and Wesley. He is also survived by his former wife, Ellen Coutant, mother of his children; his nephew Mark Antl; and his niece and nephew, Eric (Angie) and Laura Sowalskie.
There is no viewing scheduled. A service will be held on Saturday, February 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home in New Hartford. The family welcomes all who would like to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dennis’ name to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society.
Above all, Dennis was a loving father and grandfather, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and in the outdoors he cherished.
