In Memory of Della H. Williams

Obituary

Della H. Williams, 88, of Utica, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Sitrin Health Care Center with her family by her side.

She was born on January 30, 1938, in Utica, a daughter of the late Owen and Jean (Owen) Hughes. Della was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On September 29, 1956, she married Peter “Jerry” Williams, the love of her life. Together they shared a devoted and loving marriage of nearly 70 years until Jerry’s passing on March 14, 2026. 

Della began her working career at John F. Kennedy High School in Utica and later served as a switchboard operator at St. Luke’s Hospital for more than 30 years. She took great pride in her work and the many friendships she made throughout her career.

A woman of strong faith and community spirit, Della was a longtime member of Westminster Moriah Olivet Church in Utica. She was also a proud member of the St. David’s Welsh Society and the Daughters of the Nile.

Above all else, Della cherished her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. In her free time, she enjoyed baking for those she loved and could often be found with a good book in hand.

Della is survived by her loving children and their spouses, MaryAnn (Richard) Coppola, David (Karen) Williams, Sharon (Keith) Lanahan, and Peter, Jr. (Jill) Williams; her beloved grandchildren, Brian Coppola, Michelle Coppola, Kevin (Maggi) Coppola, Jennifer (Joseph) Mashtare, David Williams, Jr., Jonathan (Jayme) Lanahan, Steven (Kelley) Lanahan, and Jordan (Vanessa) Lanahan; 14 cherished great-grandchildren; her brothers-in-law, Edward (Becca) Williams and Robert Williams; as well as several cousins and many dear friends.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Wynn Hospital for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Della.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 6, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Della’s memory to Hope House.
