David P. Hayes, 77, of Palm City, FL and formerly of New Hartford, died July 31, 2017 at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL.

He was born January 22, 1940 in Little Falls, NY son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Sheppard Hayes. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and attended Utica College. David served in the US Air Force.

He married Josephine Caiola August 5, 1961 at St. Mary’s Church, Frankfort.

Dave worked as a Manager for Sears. In 1969 he opened his own business Dave Hayes Appliance Center, Inc. something that brought him great pride. The business is currently being carried on by his son and grandsons representing three generations.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford and Holy Redeemer Church in Palm City, FL; he was also a member of the Rotary Club of Utica and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. He was a former member of the Cedar Lake Club and the Hammock Creek Club in FL.

Dave loved boating, bowling, golfing and tennis. When, Dave was in Florida, people would ask Dave, where are you? Dave would respond, “I’m in paradise”. Dave took great pride in the fact that he was invited to an Amana VIP golf tournament in Iowa and that he was on the winning team.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine; his son and daughter-in-law, David, Sr. and Kim Hayes of New Hartford; his grandchildren David, Jr and Krystle Hayes, New Hartford, Justin and Megan Hayes, New Hartford; his great-grandchildren, Isabella, David, Juliet and Austin; one sister Elizabeth (Robert) Finer of Novato, CA; his sister-in-law, Mamie Scalise of Frankfort, his brothers-in-law, Peter (Janice) Caiola, of Herkimer, Francis (Kathy) Caiola, Frankfort and Gary (Michele) Caiola, Frankfort and many nieces, nephews and cousins and his favorite dog Frankie. He was predeceased by six brothers, two sisters and a brother-in-law Ralph Scalise.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the care team at Moffitt Cancer Center for all of the care for Dave and the family.

The funeral will be Monday at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. Calling hours are on Sunday from 2-6 PM at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
