Cynthia Cassandra Story-Rice, 62, of Utica, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on Friday, January 12, 2024 at the Wynn Hospital in Utica, NY.

She was born on November 6, 1961 in Fort Lauderdale, FL, daughter of Albertha (Hill) Story and the late Charles Story, Sr. She went to Utica Free Academy, then she decided to go get her GED. She joined the workforce taking on many different occupations, but then she found something she loved to do – helping take care of people. She got into health care and became a CNA.

There was nothing she loved more than her family, and helping others. She loved to cook, play po-keno, go fishing, and playing cards with her mother.

She is survived by her daughter, Yahama Brandon, and son, Stanley W. Winston, Jr.; grandkids, Erik/Alysha Thomas, Anthony Thomas, Elisha Patterson, Charles Rodgers, and J’Quan Simmons; great-grandkids, Zha’haori, Zamari Thomas, Anthony Thomas Jr., and Neo Simmons; her mother, Albertha Story; and her siblings, Charles Story Jr., Sheila Story, Fernessia Neeley-Lilly, and Alonzo Story. She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Euston Anthony Rice Jr.; her son, Thomas L. Winston; her father, Charles Story Sr.; and her brother, Anthony Story.

Calling hour will be on Friday, January 19, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 1123 Court at York Sts., Utica.
