Cherill H. Burrows, 80, of Rome, unexpectedly died on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Wynn Hospital.
She was born on February 5, 1944, in Poughkeepsie, NY, a daughter of the late Howard G. Haas and Lois Pelton Haas. She grew up in Utica and graduated from UFA in 1961. On December 31, 1965, Cherill married George K Burrows Jr. and he died on July 31, 1972. She worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing as a Recruiter and also lived in Tucson AZ for 10 years working as a Visiting Nurse. Cherill moved back to New York in 2001, after the birth of her first grandson and resided in Rome. Cherill worked at the Eastern Star Nursing Home and various other nursing homes in the area until she retired.
She loved her God. She attended the following churches at one time and they include: Resurrection Life Rome NY, First United Methodist Rome NY and First United Methodist New Hartford NY. She also attended weekly zoom meetings for Bible Study with BSF.
With her free time, she enjoyed singing, gardening, travelling and crafts.
Cherill is survived by her two daughters, Rebecca “Becki" Burrows of Rome and Dawn (Burrows) Gardner of Kendall, NY; grandchildren, Mickey Gardner San Antonio TX, Casey Gardner Kendall NY. She is also survived by her sister, Bonnie Wilson of VA, sister-in-law Gail (Burrows) Joseph WA; Beloved dog Allie; nieces: Janet Weed NY, Joanne (Dave) Cypert VA, Kelly (Tom) Hanley TX Jennifer (Jim) Pappenberg WA, and Joanne (Shawn) Joseph MO; nephews: Thomas (Britt) Wilson NY, David (Heidi) Wilson VA; several cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and good friends, especially Karen Freytag (The Kid) and Barb Dufresne. She was predeceased by her sister, Jacqueline Kennerknecht.
Thank you to Bethany Gardens staff (especially Mahogany and Jennifer), AmCare, Wynn Hospital 3 West ICU (especially Jameson) and Emergency Dept. (especially Alex).
There were many tears of joy and sorrow as Cherie danced through Heaven’s gates to be reunited with her parents and husband. She suffered with so much pain in her earthly body. When the angels came to escort her, she needed words of encouragement from her daughters, grandsons, sister and long time friend to rest and release the pain.
The service will be on Monday, February 10 at 5:00 pm at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park in the spring, as a private family gathering. Calling hours will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider the Kidney Foundation or Samaritan's Purse in memory of Cherill.
