Betty Leyden Luvera, 92, of New Hartford, passed away August 27, 2021, at home, surrounded by her children.

She was born August 18, 1929, in San Mateo, CA, daughter of the late Gideon and Elna Jensen Dahlin.

Betty married Dennis Leyden in September of 1951 in San Mateo, CA, he died on August 26, 1977. She married Joseph Luvera in 1980 in Utica. Joseph died January 31, 2014.

She was formerly employed with Pacific Telephone Company.

Betty was famous for her apple pies and received many requests for them especially from her grandchildren. In earlier years she was a Cub Scout Den Mother and in recent years was very active at the Community at Sunset Wood.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Rosann) Leyden of Clay, NY, Janet (Michael) Van Zanen of Ben Lomond, CA, Ann Marie (Fred) Matrulli of Utica, Madeline (Joseph) Briggs, Utica, and Jodi (Lisa Williams) Luvera of New Hartford, 17 grandchildren: 23 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her extended family at the Community at Sunset Wood. She was predeceased by her brother David Dahlin.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff and her friends of Sunset Wood, especially Dominic, Jennifer and Kevin for all of their support for Betty. A special thanks also to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care for all of their care and to her special care giver Mary Lein. The family also wishes to say thank you to Julie Gorzinski PA and staff for your years of caring for Betty.

Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
