Obituary

Arnaldo Luis “Nigua” Gonzalez, 73, of Utica and formerly of Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, passed away on March 14, 2023 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center after a brief illness, surrounded by family.

He was born on August 20, 1949, in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, a son of Ramón Gonzalez and Angelina Gonzalez. He attended schools in Yahuecas, Puerto Rico.

“Nigua” was a very talented auto body man, specializing in fiberglass vehicles. He worked for many years at Precision Collision. He loved watching NASCAR, especially Tony Stewart, and football, especially the Miami Dolphins.

He is survived by a son, Luis Gonzalez; daughters, Nyoka Gonzalez and Jennifer; brothers and their wives, Luperio and Mary Gonzalez, Tony and Mary Gonzalez, Osvaldo and Norma Gonzalez, and Wilson Gonzalez; sisters and their husbands, Esther Gonzalez, Maribel and Michael McNutt, Doris Gonzalez, Nancy Flores-Gonzalez, Marilynn and Luis Santos, Carmen Arias, and Iliana Gonzalez-Luyo and Richard Luyo; and many grandkids, nieces, and nephews. “Nigua” was predeceased by his dad, Ramón Gonzalez; his mother, Angelina Gonzalez; two brothers, Ramón Antonio Gonzalez and Idelfonso Gonzalez; and a sister, Zulma Gonzalez.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for their care; his longtime friend and boss, John Ollerenshaw; and the funeral home for their assistance and professionalism.

Calling hours will be on Saturday, March 18 from 1-3PM at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford, with a service immediately following at 3PM, officiated by Rev. Antonia Cardona. Interment will be at the family’s convenience.
