Aaron Michael Mathews, 51, of Clinton, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare.

He was born on March 6, 1971, in New Hartford, a son of the late William and Christine (Bauza) Mathews. Aaron graduated from Proctor High School, Mohawk Valley Community College, SUNY IT, and Andersonville Theological Seminary. He was also accepted to PIT, The Collective, and Julliard, but did not attend.

He married Heather Linton on July 21, 2010, in Utica. Aaron was a drummer for various area bands since 1991, including Black River Revival, The Garbles, the worship band at Our Savior Lutheran Church, and several others, particularly his own passion project, ArayA, for which he both composed and performed. He also performed with St. Louis-based metal band Blackdeth. Aaron opened His Truth Ministries, a house church, in Utica in 2004 and later transitioned to preaching and counseling online as a Reformed Christian minister. He was a member of the Disabled Drummers Association and Can-Do-Musos.

He is survived by his loving wife, Heather Mathews of Clinton; his buddy, stepson, Caleb Linton, of Rome, NY; brother, Jeff (Amanda) Mathews, of Florida; sister, Terah (Jesus) Velasco of Arizona; parents-in-law, Daniel and Katherine Linton, of Rome, NY; brother-in-law, Sean Linton (Linda Guiliano); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was predeceased by his brother, Brian Mathews, grandparents Stanley and Irma (Ganter) Bauza, and Robert and Lucille (Sweeney) Mathews, as well as aunts Sylvia (Bauza) Smith, Stephanie (Bauza) Anna, and Colleen (Mathews) Wilczek.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff of the ER at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare for all care and comfort given to Aaron.

Services will be held on Thursday, February 23, at 4:00 pm at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 1123 Court St., Utica. Calling hours will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, funeral immediately following, officiated by Aaron's friend Pastor Aaron Goerner of Christ Church Reformed in Rome.
