Tom and Brenda,

I am so saddened by the loss of your mother, who just happened to be my favorite aunt! I have a ton of memories about visiting the Pentlands in Utica. As a kid, my family and I visited many times. As an adult, I had the opportunity to visit my Uncle Bill and Aunt Mimi a few times with my mother alongside. It was my Uncle Bill who introduced me to Manhattans! We would take trips up to Black River to my dad's gravesite. Then, we would return to Utica for a great meal cooked by my aunt. And, of course, happy hour was always celebrated properly!!

I will always remember Wynema's laugh. She was so outgoing and friendly. She definitely was a great aunt! Having lost both my parents over the years, I understand what a great loss it is when a parent passes. I certainly wish the two of you peace at such a difficult time.

Tom and Brenda,
I’m so sorry to learn about Wynema. Of all the many aunts that we La Claire children had, she was the one we were closest to, by far. Julie and I really enjoyed her and Bill’s company in 2004 when we traveled to Utica to race the Boilermaker 15K. The two of them were even on the side of the road near Utica College cheering each of us on when we passed them. It was a real thrill to have them there and get a boost from their support. It meant a lot to us that they would take the time and make the effort to do that. I’ll also never forget the summers when I spent time with your family on my own, building plastic models out on the screened-in patio. I’ll always remember them fondly. May peace be with you both. John
