Dear Vi and Family: I am very sorry for your loss. I first met Bill, forty years ago, in 1979. I was an engineering student doing my internship at ICL, on Cosby Manor Rd, in Utica. Bill was my boss, and mentor. I will always remember him, as a consummate professional, brilliant, kind, patient, and focused.
We were all committed to our work on Cosby Manor Road, but we often used humor-- usually self deprecating—to temper the pressure of the day. Bill was a master. I often think of his favorite line--- used whenever something unexpectedly went wrong; “Well, we just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.” Bill's contagious and unmistakable laugh brought joy to many.
I have always been grateful for the years of tutelage and guidance that I had with Bill. He taught me everything I needed to know about how to be a good engineer. What a great man he was.
Thank you for sharing Bill with us. May your faith, family, and friends guide you through this difficult time.
