Walt was someone whose voice I met months before I met him in person. I was one of a group of five of us here in Charlottesville, Va who had responded to a request from our AAA to prove a daily phone call to Walt to check on him, since he lived alone. He was so charming that all of us wanted to meet him, so ultimately four of us five women took him out to dinner.
What a lovely man! Each of us looked forward to our call with him, and he soon knew that we meant business: if he didn’t answer, we gave him 30 minutes to call back before we drove over to check on him. Usually he’d gone out with friends and had forgotten about his daily call.
While we were glad he would be living closer to his brother, we all
have missed him. May he rest in
Peace, and may all who cared for him be comforted in their sorrow.
Condolences
