Waterville – Viola J. Erb Cushman, 60, of Waterville, passed away quietly in the comfort of her own home July 12, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 27, 1957 in North Brookfield, a daughter of Harland Erb and Mary Jane (Getchel) Erb. Viola graduated from Clinton High School in 1975. She retired from the family-owned Cushman Truck and Auto Repair in Waterville, where she had worked for 19 years. Prior to that, she had been employed at the former Waterville Knitting Mill.

Vi was an active full-time member of Cushman Racing (ARCA) for 11 years. She handled the public relations part of the business, worked in the pits, and was in charge of team communications during the races. During those times when she wasn’t traveling with the racing team, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and fourwheeling.

Survivors include her partner and soul mate of 26 years, Dave Cushman; three sons, George Cushman, Doug Weaver, and Scott Weaver; two daughters, Sara Weaver and Jennifer Weaver; four grandchildren, Ashley and Alexis Blake, and Jaden and Josiah Weaver; and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, remembering especially her sister Dixie.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of MVHS Waterville Office and Hamilton Community Memorial Hospital for the compassionate and comforting care given to Viola throughout her illness. They also wish to acknowledge two very special friends, Karen Gallagher and Nancy Hunter, and the team of Hospice nurses that, through their friendly caring and support, made the reality of Vi’s final days manageable for her and her family.

Her funeral will be Monday at 7 p.m. at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford. Calling hours will precede the service, beginning at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a contribution in Vi’s memory to the American Cancer Society Wig Program, 100 Lomond Court, Ste. 6, Utica, NY 13502, or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.
