In Memory of Valorie A. Hochberg

Obituary

Valorie A. Hochberg, 71, of New Hartford, died on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at her home.

She was born on September 18, 1947, in Utica, a daughter of the late William E. and Ida Mary (Cindy) Snyder Whalen. In 1965, she graduated from Herkimer High School and later graduated from Utica College. She continued her education at Syracuse University and received master’s degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy and Social Work. She married Dr. Michael Hochberg on January 3, 1986, at Colgate University. Valorie worked as a family therapist at Catholic Charities in Herkimer and retired from the Clinton Therapy and Testing Center in 2010.

Valorie and her husband shared a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed skiing and hiking, particularly in the Adirondacks. She also loved to travel and cherished the special time she spent with her family. Valorie was a member of St. Thomas Church in New Hartford.

She is survived by her beloved family, including her husband, Dr. Michael Hochberg of New Hartford; daughters, Melissa (Christopher) Haubner of Farmington, NY, and Melanie (Matthew) Hochberg Giger, of Maplewood, NJ; grandchildren, Mary-Katherine, Dylan, Lia, and Silas; brother, Rev. William (Linda) Whalen, and sister Kimberly (Kevin) Rice, and her adored nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be on Monday, January 14, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services. There will be no calling hours.
