Thilda Orrico, 98, of New Hartford, died on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side.

She was born in July 8, 1924, in Bavaria, Germany a daughter of the late Hans and Matilda Harthan Waltran. She studied playing the organ in Salzburg, Austria, studies cut short because of WWII. Thilda emigrated to the USA where she met her future husband, Paul Orrico. In October of 1957, she married Paul in Germany. Thilda was a piano teacher and was the choir director and organist at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford for many years.

Thilda’s faith in God was her life and she found great comfort in saying the Rosary daily. With her free time, she enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and playing the piano. Her true love was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Halpin and her husband, Mark of New Hartford; grandchildren, Clare Hambrook and her husband, Bennett, and Dennis Halpin and his fiancée, Lindsey Cross as well as extended family in Germany and Austria. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Orrico and daughter, Josie.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the Staff on the 4th floor in the Intermediate Care Unit at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for all special care and comfort given to Thilda.

The funeral will be on Wednesday, July 27, at 10:30 at Historic St. John’s Church, 240 Bleecker St, Utica, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Interment will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY at the convenience of the family. The family will receive family and friends prior to the Mass from 10:00 to 10:30. Arrangements are the Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
