Sylvia Hymon, 62, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2021.

She was born October 18, 1958 in Utica, daughter of the late July and Eliza (Richardson) Phillips. In 2001 Sylvia was united in marriage to Norris “Tank” Hymon.

Sylvia worked for The House of the Good Shepard and later the ARC. Both jobs let her display her sense of compassion and understanding towards others.

Sylvia’s family will remember her as their rock, the person who kept them all together. Those who knew Sylvia knew her door was always open. She had a loving caring heart and would do anything she could for anyone. Sylvia enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. You could always find her with one of her life-long friends Gwen, Linda, Doreen, Angela, or Luberta having a great time together. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her and deeply missed throughout the neighborhood.

She is survived by her husband, Norris “Tank” Hymon, her son and daughter-in-law Jerome and Chantelle Allen, her grandchildren DeQuan Jefferson, Marcus and McKenna Allen; her great grandchildren Kamari Matthews with whom she shared a special bond, Rhay’Jon Smith and Jayla Cummings, and her four-legged companion, Max. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her loving brothers, Walter, Ulysee, John and Willie “Bill” Phillips and her sisters Loretta Hatter and Marguerite E. Phillips, and special friend Lindsey McCants.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 2-4 PM at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 1123 Court @ York Streets, with services following at 4 PM. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Due to Covid, social distancing and masks will be required.
