Obituary

Robert (Rob) Henderson Cross Jr., 64, of White Lake, passed away on Dec. 1, 2022. He was born Feb. 11, 1958, in Utica, and grew up in New Hartford.

Rob received his bachelor’s in mechanical technology from Rochester Institute of Technology. He had several jobs throughout his career, including at the Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper, Inc., and Utica Corporation. But the bulk of his career was spent as a beloved member of the Utica University – then Utica College – community. Rob retired from his position as Director of Environmental Health and Conservation at Utica in 2020 after 21 years.

In retirement, Rob enjoyed spending time camping and weekend Adirondack trips with his beloved daughter, Audrey. He also liked working on cars, fishing, biking, and other outdoor activities.

Rob also loved a warm cabin on a cold winter day and spending summer days at the beach, collecting rocks and old bottles from all of his adventures.

He was predeceased by his mother, Marion Cross; father, Robert Cross Sr.; and sisters, Claire and Helen Cross.
Rob is survived by his daughter, Audrey Cross; sister, Linda Cholakis and husband Jim; brother, Jim Cross and wife Sue; niece Christy Tolbert and husband Chris and their two daughters Alexandra and Athena; and ex-wife, Elena Yuhasz.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Rob’s name to Lewis County Humane Society, where he rescued his beloved dog Matrix.

Calling hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, December 8, at Friedel, Williams, and Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services at 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford, NY, 13413. A brief service will follow at 7 PM. Rob requested for those attending to bring a small memento to place in his casket.

A graveside burial will take place at a later date at the White Lake Cemetery.
