Mrs. Reitz, Phil, Larry and twins - I was sorry to see that Dr. Reitz had passed, but I must also say that reading his obituary brought back many memories of a great family and the fun times in and around 3 Compton Road.

My sympathies to the family of Dr. Philip Reitz. I was the Clinical Coordinator of the MVCC Respiratory Care Program in the late 1970-80's when Dr. Reitz was our Medical Director. Dr. Reitz was the ultimate professional; intelligent, kind, and caring. He carried himself with quiet dignity and had unwavering integrity. His commitment to patient care made him a wonderful role model for students - his work as our Medical Director displayed a dedication to the education of budding health professionals. I was honored to work with him - Dr. Reitz will always be part of the history of the respiratory program at Mohawk Valley Community College.

I'm so sorry that Dr. Reitz has passed. What a long, interesting, full and good life he led. We send our sincerest condolences to the Reitz family from the Olsons. We were neighbors with the Reitz family when we lived on Gilbert Road in New Hartford way back in the 1960's-70's when I was a child. I only knew Dr. Reitz for a very small portion of his life but he always impressed me since he was a doctor and he loved sailing and he drove a VW Beetle like my dad. I remember his dry wit and serious manner. There was one episode in the early 60's when Phil Reitz III, Tommy Madden and I took a big bike ride from New Hartford to Binghamton via Route 12 to see Phil's cousins. About 10 or 15 miles south of New Hartford, Dr Reitz drove up behind us in his VW Beetle to check on us and "busted" us for not staying on the highway shoulder. It wasn't pretty... we had no defense for riding our bikes in the road (on a curve as I recall - oops!) even though it was traffic-free at the time. He have us a good chewing out; deservedly so!!
Sincerest Regards,
Mark Olson

We are sorry to learn of the passing of Dr. Philip Reitz and offer our condolences to his family. His life left a legacy worthy of emulation and the void he leaves here is countered by his place in the next life. As with many of those who have gone before, we wish we could have shared more time here.
