Obituary

Marguerite “Peggy” Higgins, 94, formerly of New Hartford, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2018 at Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Syracuse, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 12, 1923 in Massena, NY a daughter of Moses and Mary Elizabeth Murphy Thompson.

Peggy married James Higgins in 1946 and they lived a good share of their lives on Sherrill Lane in New Hartford. James died in September 1992.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford.

Peggy loved her pets and she especially loved to travel with her family. She will be remembered for her kind and gentle disposition and her willingness to put everyone else’s needs before her own.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Mary Lou Higgins of Liverpool, three grandchildren, Amy Sellars of Chagrin Falls, OH, Justin (Jamie) Higgins of N. Syracuse and Aidan Higgins of Liverpool; five great grandchildren Bryce, Grant, Dane, Avery and Cooper; her brother Francis Thompson of Brick, NJ, several nieces and nephews and her beloved cat Mollie. She was predeceased by her siblings Blanche Colvin, Alma Houmiel, Howard Thompson, Loren Thompson, Lloyd Thompson and Harold Thompson.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for all of the care and kindness shown to Peggy.

Calling hours will be Friday from 10:30 AM to 12:00 Noon at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. A funeral will follow at the funeral home at 12:00 Noon. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum.
