Jon and Dave -

I am so sorry for your loss. Your father was a good man and good friend of my family for over 50 years. And, as many have written, he was most proud of the both of you and the fine men that you are.

I recently reconnected with your Dad after many years of having not lived in New Hartford. It was as if no time had passed. We talked and laughed about your father's legendary exploits, movies, SU athletics and, of course, how proud he was of both of you and your families. We reminisced about going to SU hoops games in Manley Fieldhouse before the Dome was built, as well as cold November days in the mid-seventies when your father, my father and I sat on the concrete bleachers of old Archbold Stadium to watch some really bad SU football teams get beat by some really good Pitt and Penn State teams. Just a great time seeing and speaking with him again.

I know the days ahead will be difficult for you and your families as you mourn the loss of your funny, caring, big-hearted father, but I also know that you will have many wonderful memories to help sustain you during this time and to cherish in the years to come. Again, my deepest sympathies to you and your families.

Les and I have known each other many years starting about 65 years ago when we played baseball together for the "Ridgewood Raiders" in Utica. I watched him play varsity football for Utica Free Academy where he was a kicker and got the nickname Les "the toe" Lewis. I also watched him play baseball in Utica's Municiple League where he was one of the best. Hard to believe he has passed. He was always an athlete and one summer in the late sixties we hung around together. Condolences to his wife Karen and the rest of the family.

Lewis family,
Please accept my condolences on Les's passing. I enjoyed our daily
encounters when his offices were located behind Randall's Pharmacy where
I was employed. Always entering with a humorous comment (or song), he made the day a little brighter. Loved that he had his own personal "baseball trading card". He will be missed. Prayers to you all.

Our empathy to Jon and David and the Lewis family and friends.
Les was a unique individual. The world could use more men like Les Lewis. It was never a dull moment when Les was around. His life was what great authors write stories about. He was a bright light in an often dark world.

Lewis Family,
I can see him, just past the pearly gates, running over to some old time big league ball player, giving him an ear-full for swinging at that 3-1 pitch on a random day in 1956!

Les was a one-of-a-kind personality, a local legend, and a friend to many, myself included. He will be missed.

Condolences to you all.

Jon & David, The Roemer family sends our deepest condolences upon your father’s death. He was a long time friend for over 70 years, first meeting at South Utica Little League in the 1950s to just a month ago at Hannaford where we conversed for half an hour about baseball, other sports & our kids. God bless.

Lewis Family,

I'm saddened to hear of your dad's passing. You boys were his pride and joy!! Our chance encounters always turned into extended conversations about you, my family and of course-sports. Les had an incredible memory for sports history. Our sports conversations flowed from Syracuse University to his many meetings with the greatest sports legends.

When I went to see your dad for legal issues, he always put me at ease explaining things in terms I could understand. As soon as the legal talk subsided, we'd fall right back into our usual format of discussing family, sports cards and his many escapades with sports Hall of Famers. Your dad was a great and unique man.

May he rest in peace....

Jon and David
My sincere condolences on the passing of your Dad! No one could rehash a baseball game from 30 years ago , like Les Lewis…. He had it down , inning by inning , pitch by pitch!!! He was a friend and I’ll miss running into him, as I often did ! Unfortunately I won’t be able to make his services, as I’m down in Port St Lucie watching some Spring Training Baseball, right where Les would want me to be……My thoughts and prayers are with both of you!!! May he Rest In Peace!!!

So sorry for your loss. Les was a friend of my father, Jack Jones, and even dropped Ernie Banks off with my Dad at the bank he managed, while he went to court! A memory my Dad held dear to his heart.

Jon, Dave and families-
So sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. He was a great guy, and a good coach - I really enjoyed playing baseball for him. He gave me the chance to play for New Hartford Post, which was the best Legion baseball team I was ever on. We had a great year because your Dad made it really fun!
When my Mom passed away, your Dad stopped by the funeral home and dropped off a team picture and a nice note about my Mom. We ended up emailing back and forth and your Dad was funny as always. I hope you have many great memories of your Dad - he was one of a kind!

I am so sad to hear this. I met and talked with Les many times at City Hall then a few years ago I used to see him every morning at Crestwood Golf Course where we would share a laugh or two. He was a great guy and one of the best attorneys in the City though he would not admit it. RIP Les.
