Josephine G. Julian of Utica died September 30, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She was 101.

Josephine, who was known as “Jo” to her friends, was born January 10, 1917 in Fredonia, NY, to the late Antonio and Giovanna Gioia Leone. She was raised on a farm and vineyard in Fredonia and graduated from Fredonia High School.

She moved to Utica so she could work for her brother, Dr. Frank Leone. There she met Michael Julian and they married on November 24, 1938 at St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia.

She was a member of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.
After retirement she and her husband lived in Boca Raton, FL for many years.

Josephine enjoyed golf, especially having two Holes-in-one within two weeks at two different clubs. She was a member of Cedar Lake Club. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends.

Josephine is survived by her children, Michael F. (Linda) Julian of Rye, NY, Harold A. (Joanne) Julian, of Utica, Kathryn Caramadre of Bronxville, NY, James E. (Sue Ann) Julian of New Hartford and Thomas J. (Mary) Julian, of Rye, NY; 17 Grandchildren and 26 Great Grandchildren; her sister Phylis Saeli of Utica and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, several siblings including her brother Dr. Frank Leone and a sister Marietta Joy, and her son-in-law Thomas Caramadre, Jr.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Fred Talarico and staff as well as the staff of St. Elizabeth Medical Center for all of the excellent care given to Josephine.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 PM at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Ziyara Shriner’s Transportation Fund. (Envelopes will be available at the funeral home).
