Jane Griffin Copeland

Mrs. Jane Griffin Copeland, 95, of New Hartford, NY passed away on December 10, 2020 at the Presbyterian Home. Mrs. Copeland was born in Rome, NY on November 18, 1925 and was the daughter of Katherine and Dennis Griffin.

Mrs. Copeland graduated from Rome Free Academy and Syracuse University were she received her degree in Psychology. While at Syracuse University, Jane was a member of the National Honor Society in Psychology, Psi Chi, as well as the social sorority, Theta Phi Alpha. She was also a Syracuse University football and basketball cheerleader.

Following her graduation from the university, she met and married her husband of 67 years, Warren Copeland at St Peter's Church in Rome, NY. During their 67 years of marriage, Mrs. Copeland had 5 beautiful children and enjoyed spending time with them and their families. They all spent many summers together on Oneida Lake.

Well known for her art work in the community, Jane was a member of the Utica Art Association as well as the Naples Florida Art Association. Jane's art work could be seen at private shows and public shows as well as many appearances in the Utica Sidewalk Art Show. She has received numerous awards for her art, including Outstanding Portrait and Masters Awards at the Adirondack Regional Art Shows in Old Forge, NY. She enjoyed sharing her love of art with her children and grandchildren always encouraging them to be creative.

As an avid golfer, Jane was a member of the Yahnundasis Golf Club and the Country Club of Naples in Florida. She loved laughing with her friends on the golf course and made lasting friendships.

She is survived by her children Kevin E. (Ameena Chanatry) Copeland of New Hartford, Robert S. (Robin Bodner) of Clinton, Christine A. Johnson of New Hartford, Kathleen B. (Paul) Marquis of Shrewsbury, MA. Jane has 7 grandchildren Eric Johnson, Kimberly (Shane) Fox, Amy Johnson (Patrick Ristau), Kristen (Christopher) Walsh, Mark Copeland, Adam (Alexis) Copeland, and Carolyn Copeland. She was also blessed with 7 great-grandchildren. Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband Warren Copeland in 2014, her son W. Dennis Copeland in 1980 and her sister Katherine Seibel.

Mrs. Copeland was a member of St John's the Evangelist Church, New Hartford, NY and a member of St. Mary's Church in Verona Beach, NY where she spent her summers.

A special thank you to the staff at the Presbyterian Home, especially the Cedar Unit. Thank you Karen, Jackie, Sue, and Beth for your love and compassion while Jane was in your care.

The funeral will be on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Interment is at Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro, NY. Because of the Covid-19 restrictions there will be no reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stevens-Swan Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the church.
